6 Kinds of Keywords To Use in Your Website Copy

Let’s face it people search for the same product  differently.  I learned this when creating content for over 50,000 items on Amazon.  The mere fact that this happens may make you unaware of keywords that could be missing in your own website copy. For those that are keyword newbies, the definition of a keyword from Technopedia is the following- “A keyword, in the context of search engine optimization, is a particular word or phrase that describes the contents of a Web page. Keywords are intended to act as shortcuts that sum up an entire page. Keywords form part of a Web page’s metadata and help search engines match a page to with an appropriate search query.”

Now that you understand how a keyword can help your website traffic, I have come up with 6 kinds or types of keywords that you should consider researching if you are just starting out or just want to refresh your content.  You may just find that more traffic is headed to your site than ever before!

  1.   Solving a Problem Keywords

Let’s use this an example say I manufacture towels.  Now how do you ask would I solve a problem with a towel?  Well after diligently looking through some testimonials on other websites that may sell products similar to mine, I see that color fading is a constant issue with customers.  I know that my towels are color fade proof!    See how I came up with that keyword- color fade free, color fade proof?

       2.   Providing a Solution Keywords

After searching through some product testimonials, I see that customers want a spa like experience when it comes to their towels.  So there is another solution keyword- spa-like experience.

       3.  Describing Your Product Keywords

Otherwise known as product descriptors.  Does your product have many names that it can be searched under?   Let’s go back to towels again. After doing some searching, towels can be searched under Bath Linens, Body Cleaning Cloths, Facial Cleansing Cloths, Bath Sets and much more!

       4.  Product/Service Attribute Keywords

Think about the shape, fabrication, color, size, etc of the product you are selling.  I’ll come back to the towels example again.  I would say my towels are Turkish Cotton or Egyptian Cotton or Oversized Bath Towel.

     5.    How is This Item Used Keyword?

Sometimes products can have multiple meanings.  Ok don’t laugh but what about a Nut Cracker?  Is it a kitchen tool for cracking nuts or a collectible figurine?  Well it just happens to be both.  That is why keywords are so important here!

    6.      Targeting Your Audience Keywords

I am going to reference the towels again.  I would use the keyword spa lovers, spa experience,

So you see it may take some time and a little creativity, but you will have a huge keyword list before you know it!
