Episode 4
One question I get asked all the time is whether blogging or podcasting is better for SEO. There are so many podcasts out there that have great information, so should you blog? Isn’t blogging completely dead? Blogging is not completely dead, in fact it’s been around longer than podcasting. And for long-term SEO, it’s really important to do.
So can you do both podcasts and blogging? Yes, if you can then doing both is great. You first have to look at what you enjoy and feel comfortable doing. Do you like writing? Are you a little bit more introverted? Do you hate being on video or audio? If you answered yes to these questions, perhaps blogging is for you. If you can’t stand writing, and you want a way to get content out there on your website, which is really important to do, you can develop a podcast. If you do decide to podcast, one way to get content on your website is to transcribe the podcast into a blog post. Now you have to clean up the transcription a little bit for grammar and word flow, but this way you have instant content for the show notes of your podcast and create content for your website. If you can do both blogging and podcasting, even better. This gives Google more content from your website to index and rank you for keywords, which makes your website easier to find.
I know time is limited, so you have to go with what you love and what’s in your comfort zone. For example, GaryVee is known more for video and audio content. He may write Twitter captions, but may not write for his own site. He is known more for video, audio and podcasting. That’s his zone of genius and where he puts his energy. Because you can’t do it all! If you can, outsource tasks that you don’t have time for or don’t enjoy doing yourself.
So, to answer the question, “Should I blog or podcast?” – do both! However, focus on what you love and where you feel comfortable. The more content you have the better.
